The main hostel type accommodation is at the University of York,
which was also used very successfully for the 1983 F3B world championship.
The prices are reasonable
and the accommodation available
looks very nice.
The appartments and houses represent very good value for a team which wants to live together as a "family",
or more likely a group of student friends.
There are also single and double rooms for "older" members or associates who need more dedicated facilities
but who wish to remain close. The campus is a short 10/15 minutes drive from the Knavesmire.
The organisers will not be involved in booking the accommodation.
This should be done by the teams and individuals themselves.
The email address is
central-reservations@york.ac.uk.
They are happy to make reservations over the phone (00 44 (0) 1904 434870)
or via email.
They also have a secure fax line on 00 44 (0)1904 433433 for payments,
which are required six weeks prior to arrival. They can accept payment by
Visa or Mastercard. They will also accept cheques in pounds sterling made
payable to 'University of York'. The other important thing to be
pointed out is that they operate a 28 day cancellation policy and therefore
strongly recommend that guests take out holiday insurance prior to their
visit.

The Racecourse Centre is the former Jockey club
and has 10 rooms available in the main building (at the time of writing) for the period 6th to 15th August.
Possibly some others from the 12th to the 15th, suitable for the BEFA fly-in.
The Racecourse Centre is only two minutes walk from the flying site, across the Knavesmire.
By car, however, you have to drive all the way round so it is not significantly easier than the University.
It might be particularly indicated for use in conjunction with the camping.
It does not offer self catering facilities, but evening meals can be arranged if sufficient demand.
The organisers will not be involved in booking the accommodation,
but Alison
the manager has kindly offered to take individual bookings for our group.
Alison says
"The rate for bed and English breakfast would be £22 per person per
night based on twin occupancy of rooms. If the rooms were used for single
occupancy there would be a supplement of £7 per night (the rooms are
actually 4 bedded). Competitors can contact me direct to make provisional
reservations but they need to mention 'Electric
World Championship' so that I know they are part of the group."
The Organisers will not be involved in any booking of hotel accommodation, the following is offered as a starting point to help teams and individuals.
A vast amount of accommodation is available in and around York. It is an historic,
walled city and is visited by many tourists in the summer months, because of this
accommodation should be booked reasonably early if competitors wish to have a
good choice.
Parking at any inner-city hotel could be a problem and competitors should check
carefully what parking is available. Out of town parking at any hotel should present
no problem but checking is advisable.
The following is a list which the organisers present as an indication of the range, type and price of accommodation which can be found in and around the City of York, all have suitable parking.
Many local Guest Houses offer Bed & Breakfast accommodation from CHF 50 per person per day.
Full details of all the accommodation in and around York can be found at http://www.visityork.org
Direct web bookings for multi-national hotel chains can often produce the best deals and prices.
