Location

York as a city is extremely attractive to visitors and is considered to be one of England's most historically significant locations. It is well equipped to welcome tourists with a plethora of accommodation, restaurants, museums and other attractions. It is compact and the city centre is pedestrianised. The location of the flying site is within walking distance of the city centre and there is a reliable public transport system. The city is located in the North-East of England (see map) in the centre of the Vale of York and the surrounding area has acclaimed natural beauty. The Yorkshire coast, the North Yorkshire Moors, and the Yorkshire Dales are all within 50 km of the city centre. This location (including the flying site) has been used for a previous World Championship when the 1983 F3B event was held there. This event was considered to be highly successful and set the standard for many that followed. The organisers have already made contact with the City and Tourist bodies and have received meaningful support at all levels. For those with a fancy browser a virtual reality tour is available.

Transport

Travel to the UK is available through a well established pattern of air and sea routes. Main International air routes are to London (Heathrow, Gatwick, Luton and Stansted) and Manchester. European routes exist into Leeds/Bradford, Hull, and Teesside. Connection flights are also available. York is a major stop on the main East coast rail line with an excellent service to London and other major cities. The motorway network provides direct access to the York area, and ferry routes (RORO) from Europe enter the UK at Hull (65 Km). See again the map for details. On site transportation requirements are likely to be low due to the minimum separation of flying site and camping/caravan facilities, but some transport will be maintained locally for emergency situations. If the hostel accommodation is taken up in numbers then informal transport may be made available each morning and evening. All major international car hire firms operate in the UK and have outlets at airports and elsewhere within the York Area

Climate

The climate in York is a typical UK/Western European climate of moderate summer temperatures with variable winds and occasional showers of rain.
